Fender Standard Stratocaster

The Fender Standard Stratocaster does exactly what it says on the tin - it sets the standard for all other guitars to follow. The Standard Strats are made out of Fender's hi-tech production facility in Mexico. This enables Fender to produce a high quality guitar, but at an affordable price. Most other manufacturers have to make their affordable guitars in the Far East, whereas Fender are making theirs about 5 hours drive from their Californian based HQ! This is such a clever move for Fender as they are able to manage the Mexican plant in a far more hands on way that they could if the plant was in China - this results in a consistantly well made range of guitars that are extremeley well priced.

In 2006 the Standard Strat had a few upgrades made to it. Firstly the neck had the edges smoothed off (like the USA made ones) & the frets were replaced with slightly larger fret wire - this also is common on the USA models & is generally preferred to the skinny frets. The trem block was enlarged & this adds a little sustain to the guitar. New finishes were made available & the guitar now comes with a Fender Gig Bag. As always you have the choice of a maple (the light colour) or a rosewood (the dark colour) fret board. The difference between the two is quite subtle, with the maple board having a slightly brighter tone than the rosewood board. The maple board also has a slightly smoother feel straight out the box, whereas the rosewood board takes a little time to play in. However, the rosewood board is harder wearing & will not discolour over time like the maple one will. A lot of first time players will chose the fret board wood based on the colour & thats fine to do too as the difference between the two is not massive!
